A wrong figure is the most useful thing you can report
People make real decisions on these numbers, so an error here matters. If a result does not match your payslip, your lender's quote or your tax software, that is worth reporting and it gets investigated. The most useful report names the calculator, the inputs you used, the figure you got and the figure you expected — and, where relevant, your state and filing status, since that is usually where a discrepancy lives.
Before writing, the methodology page is worth a glance: it lists what the calculators deliberately do not model — local and city taxes, credits, itemised deductions, other household income — which accounts for most of the gap between a clean estimate and an actual paycheck.
Also worth writing about
- A calculator that is not on the counter yet. Tell us the decision you are trying to make; that is more useful than a feature name.
- A state figure that is off. Graduated states use a labelled effective-rate estimate, and if it is materially wrong for your income band we would like to know.
- An out-of-date figure. Tax figures change annually and occasionally mid-year. If a bracket, wage base or rate has moved and this site has not, say so.
- Something in the guides that is incorrect. Corrections are welcome and get made.
- Accessibility problems. If a calculator is hard to use with a keyboard, a screen reader or at high zoom, that is a bug and it gets priority.
- Account, membership and billing questions, including cancellation and data deletion. See the privacy policy for what is stored; requests are answered within 30 days.
What we cannot do
We cannot give you tax, investment or financial advice, or tell you what to do in your specific situation — that requires a qualified professional who can see your full circumstances. What we can do is explain how a calculator arrived at its number and fix it if it is wrong.
