Where the figures come from
Every calculator on this site computes from published tax year 2026 figures: federal brackets and the standard deduction from IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32, the $184,500 Social Security wage base from the Social Security Administration, and state rates as they stand January 1, 2026 per the Tax Foundation. Where a state's graduated brackets are modeled as an estimate, the estimate is drawn from ITEP's Who Pays? effective-rate data and carries the caution stripe wherever it appears.
Questions people ask
Are these numbers the same as my actual paycheck?
They are estimates built from published 2026 federal brackets, FICA rates, and state rates. Your employer's W-4 settings, benefits elections, and local taxes can shift the real figure. Every line shows the assumption behind it so you can see exactly where your number would diverge.
Why does every result carry a year stamp?
Tax figures change every year. Each result here is computed from tax year 2026 law — IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 brackets, the $184,500 Social Security wage base, and January 2026 state rates. A number without a year is not an answer.
Is SalarySmith free?
